Trust Objects

2(a) To promote the development of services and programmes that are inclusive of and aimed at meeting the needs of families and children affected by alcohol, drug and other addictions.

Addiction is understood as an intense relationship to a substance or process at significant cost to other relationships. Examples of addiction are alcohol dependence, compulsive gambling, nicotine dependence.

(b) To demonstrate a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi through responsiveness to cultural diversity and partnership with Tangata Whenua.

(c) To initiate research into current practices and interventions for those directly and indirectly affected by addiction.

(d) To constructively challenge current practice in the field of addiction assessment and intervention, particularly with regard to services for families and children.

(e) To act as a resource and a focus for those working in the field of families and addiction, to assist in providing training, support and evaluation.

(f) To act as an advocate and catalyst for change by addressing the issues that currently prevent the development of family and community focused programmes.

(g) To promote awareness of the importance of family participation in long term, sustained change in those affected directly and indirectly by addiction.

(h) Where appropriate, to work with organisations presently involved in the provision of services for those affected by addiction, organisations training or supporting staff providing such services, or relevant research and financial organisations. Such organisations could include, but not be limited to the following:

(i) District Health Boards;

(ii) Alcohol Liquor Advisory Council;

(iii) Universities & other providers of educational services;

(iv) Ministry of Health;

(v) Iwi providers of social and health services;

(vi) Other non-governmental organisations providing health and social services;

(vii) Bank and Credit Unions.

(i) To promote the objects of this Trust by means of meetings, publications and other forms of publicity.

(j) To raise funds for the purpose of the Trust.

(k) To accept the control and custody of any assets vested in the Trustees for the purpose of the Trust and to administer the same.
