Family Inclusive Practice

This resource is intended for addiction practitioners who have an understanding of drug and alcohol assessments and interventions, who want to acquire skills to work in a more inclusive and contextual fashion.

Families, whanau and other social networks can be complex and at times challenging to work with. This resource is not intended to make people experts in the field, nor is it about specialist family therapies. This resource does not cover working with families where the impact of family violence, severe addiction or mental health issues mean that more specialist intervention is required. It will be of value where a practitioner wishes to work with a client and their immediate social networks, be its partner, family or whanau, in a manner that acknowledges the role of family members in the process of recovery
