Exploring strategies for the family and friends of people using alcohol and drugs

Family members and others who are living close to people with alcohol and drug problems experience significant stress and as a result they often experience anxiety, depression or other health issues.
This one day training, based on the Kina resource Living Well, aimed at promoting the wellbeing of family members, includes the following topics: 
Ø  Understanding family addiction issues
Ø  Application of the Living Well model
Ø  Family risk and resilience
Ø  Accessing other services
 
FAMILY INCLUSIVE PRACTICE - Introductory workshop

 Including families in addressing alcohol and drug issues can have significant benefits for both clients and their families. This introductory training, based on our Practitioner Guide, ‘Family Inclusive Practice in the Addiction Field’ is aimed at building on current inclusive practice. By drawing on a range of intervention models, the following topics are addressed:
Ø What does FIP mean?
Ø Models and tools utilised in Family Inclusive Practice
Ø Skill development in working with families
Ø Overcoming barriers and fostering service development in FIP

KINA TRUST /MATUA RAKI WORKSHOPS

Working with families experiencing challenging and complex issues

 

These workshops are targeted specifically at practitioners working in the Alcohol and Drug treatment sector working with families and other social networks. They are aimed at enhancing the ability of workers to engage and work with families who experience a range of challenging issues, alcohol and drugs being one. Practical skills and strategies are provided to use with clients and their families in ways that address risk and promote individual and family capacities.

Key topics in the two day interactive workshops include:

· Views and knowledge about families that informs our practices

· Creating spaces to promote whanau engagement

· Working in the context of transitions, offending, family violence and promoting the wellbeing and protection of children

· Safe, effective and collaborative practices that promote resilience

Kina Families and Addiction Trust is working in partnership with Matua Raki, the National Addiction

Workforce Development Centre to provide this project.

 

FIP Supervisors’ Workshops

Supervision is highlighted as a key mechanism in fostering practice change towards more inclusion of families and social networks in AOD treatment. Kina Trust has worked in partnership with Matua Raki to develop this training to equip clinical supervisors in promoting family inclusive practice. This material is aligned with other Kina Family Inclusive Practice training and best practice supervision models. Key workshop topics include:

  • Family Inclusive Practices – a review of key concepts
  • Clinical Supervision - a review of theory and practice
  • Integrating FIP into Supervision Practice – the Supervision Triangle( Hewson 1993)

There is no cost for these workshops but previous Introductory Family Inclusive Practice training is a requirement for attending. It is also expected that participants are Clinical Supervisors in the AOD sector and will complete post-workshop tasks.

Participants are eligible for 15 DAPAANZ points on completion of this workshop.
